LOTC Church Council Membership
The Church Council is responsible for managing the regular business of the church and
coordinating and providing support to the various ministries.
Selection
Membership in the Council is open to any confirmed member of the congregation.
Elections for the Council are held at the annual congregation meeting in January.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include the following:
- Attendance at the monthly Council meeting.
- This is presently held on the third Sunday of the month after Sunday Worship.
- The meetings usually last about 90 minutes.
- Council members are assigned as liaison to each of the church's committees, and
are expected to attend their committee's meeting, usually on the first Sunday of the month.
- Count the Sunday offering and make the bank deposit, two or three
months of the year. This is handled in pairs to satisfy audit requirements.
- Each member provides the opening devotion and refreshments
for one Council meeting per year, as well as the submission of an artcicle to the LOTC newsleter.
The topic of this article can be current activities in the Council,
current activities of the member's committee or a spiritual reflection
that the member would like to share with the congregation.
Organization
The council selects officers at the January meeting. These are as follows:
- President
The president presides over the monthly Council meetings and the annual congregation meeting.
- Vice president
The vice president fills in for the president as necessary and opens the monthly
committee meetings.
- Secretary
The secretary keeps the minutes for the monthly Council meetings and prepares the
annual records of the Council.
These three, with the Treasurer also serve as the Executive Committee.
Two Trustees(over the age of 21) are selected to represent the church as a business to the state.
