Education/Child Safety Committee

 

Mission Statement:  To provide a nurturing and safe environment where the wisdom and love of God is taught and shared to all God’s children, young and old.

 

Meeting Time: First Sunday of each month at 11:30.

 

Responsibilities:   The Education Committee is made up of the Sunday School Superintendant, a Church Council liaison and whoever else wishes to serve.  The primary areas of responsibility include: Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and Child Safety.

 

Typical and Recurring Tasks:

 

Monthly: Prepare report/meeting minutes for Church Council

 

January:

                New council liaison typically joins at this time.    

Plan for Vacation Bible School, recruit Director

Choose Church Picnic date (see Pastor) and site – Reserve (see June)

 

February:

                1st week – order spring Sunday School materials

                Schedule Easter Egg hunt for Palm Sunday. Coordinate with Youth Group

 

March:

                Lenten Soup Supper – Serve on Wednesday night

                Palm Sunday – Easter Egg Hunt

                Easter – No Sunday School

                Order Vacation Bible School materials – We have used Group VBS in the past with good results.

 They send us catalogs each year – check the Education mailbox in the office.

 

April:

                Recruit Vacation Bible School teachers and helpers

                Order gifts for Sunday School Teacher Appreciation Day

 

May:

                Mother’s Day – No Sunday School

                Confirm last day of Sunday School. Last Sunday before Memorial Day weekend

 

 

June:    

1st Sunday - Sunday School Teacher appreciation – Education Committee provides gifts.  Sunday School Superintendant presents gifts during service.

                2nd Sunday - Sunday School Picnic – coordinate date with Pastor.  Past venues include McCullom Park in Everett and Cedar Grove Park in Bothell.  For either park, we need to book in advance.   For Cedar Grove Park, we get a discount if the reservation is done in the name of a Bothell resident.  The Education Committee provides food and games for the picnic.  Attached is a Costco receipt that includes most items needed for the picnic.  The congregation members typically sign up to bring various items like salads and drinks.  Someone from the Education Committee should arrive at the park early (during service) to start set up and get the charcoal going.

 

July:      

Vacation Bible School

                Recruit Sunday School teachers for fall session.

 

August:

                Determine Sunday School classes and teachers.  Currently the following classes:

                                Pre-K – 3rd

                                4th – 6th grade

                                Confirmation (7th and 8th grade) – taught by Pastor

                                Youth

                                Adults

                Order Sunday School curriculum

 

September:

            Collect consent forms and perform State Patrol background checks on all adults working with children every two years.

                Sunday School begins.

                Sunday School Teacher Installation day

 

October:

                Recruit Director for Sunday School Christmas Program

                Pastor Appreciation Month

 

November:

                No Sunday School on Thanksgiving weekend

                Submit next year’s budget proposal to church council

                Prepare Annual Report input

 

 

December:

                Sunday School Christmas Program
