All are Welcome...

But maybe you have some questions before you come.

Is there childcare?

  • Yes, there is a nursery available, with an attendant who will watch your child during the service, if you feel your child is a disturbance or would be more comfortable there. But we are happy to have children with us in the worship service - we've heard babies cry before.
  • One of the features of our worship service is a Children's Sermon, when the young people in attendance are invited to gather near the front of the church to listen or participate in a message tailored to them.

How should I dress?

  • No special rules. Some of our members wear suits, and others wear blue jeans. Polished shoes or sandals are equally acceptable.

Will I be asked to stand up and introduce myself?

  • No, you won't need to introduce yourself to the whole congregation. But people will probably introduce themselves to you and invite you to stay for coffee and cookies after the service.

Do I have to give money?

  • No. Your participartion in the worship service doesn't have an admission fee. When the offering plate is passed, you may feel free to pass it on to the next person.

How do I know where to go?

  • There will be a person at the front door who will greet you and show you the way to the sanctuary, the restroom, the nursery if necessary, and the fellowship room where we linger over coffee and cookies after the service.
  • An usher will give you a bulletin with the Order of Worship (we have large print editions if you'd like one) and help you find a seat, if you have any questions.

What Bible do you use?

  • The regular weekly readings are taken from the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) but they are also copied into an insert in the week's bulletin, so you don't really need to have your Bible for the Worship service
  • If you want to come an hour earlier, at 9AM during September through May, you are invited to join our Adult/ Intergenerational Bible Study hour. And although the NRSV is used most frequently, we enjoy comparing the same text from a different version.

What about Communion?

  • We invite all baptized Christians to the Table of the Lord. If you would like to receive communion but are unable to come to the altar rail, please make this known to one of the ushers. Worshipers receiving the Eucharist (including baptized children who have consulted with their pastor and parents), extend your hands open; children receiving the Blessing, fold your hands. (Grape juice is available as an alternative to wine.)

What if I'm alcoholic/ depressed/ other? Do I have to resolve that before coming?

  • Our basic tenet is that we are all sinners who are coming to this church. We come to celebrate God's forgiveness of our sins, and to ask for his strength and guidance in dealing with our problems.
