What is the Youth Group all about?
Every week of the school year our teen youth group meets on Sunday mornings to
talk about the Gospel lesson from that week and to do a devotion led by our adult leaders,
Dana Hanson and Steve Gengo. Currently the youth group is doing a devotional study through
Opening The Book of Faith, paralleling the material our confirmation class and adult Bible studies are covering.
The youth group is represented on the church council by one of the youth which gives the
group a liaison to the church leadership and gives that representative a
leadership role within the church. Currently our youth group meets with the
confirmation class weekly after morning Bible study to plan events for upcoming months
that will not only benefit our church and community, but build a stronger fellowship among our youth.
What does the Youth Group do other than Sunday School?
Every morning for the first ten to fifteen minutes of Sunday School, the youth group leads a sing-along
with the lower and upper elementary classes, complete with hand motions and prizes for bringing friends.
This provides a fun opportunity for the youth to connect with the younger children and worship together.
We plan a wide variety of events for each month which include service projects, fundraisers, and fellowship
building. Our youth serve at holiday brunches and help run rummage sales to help serve our congregation and
raise money for mission trips. For other service projects we have served at the Everett Gospel Mission and
collected food at thanksgiving time for food banks. Car washes make up a lot of our fundraisers, and make
for a good time. To build fellowship and have fun, our youth attend Christian concerts such as Casting Crowns
and the Newsboys, go bowling, have movie nights, and get together around once a month to do homework together.
What kind of activities does this Youth Group do?
- For the last two summers our youth have gone on two mission trips to Tecate, Mexico to teach Vacation Bible School
and to take care of needy families. Stay tuned for a link to what we did and how we grew from that rewarding experience.
- At the end of the summer or beginning of the Sunday School year we have a meeting where we brain storm about the activities that we want
to do over the coming year. In the past years some of our activities we have done and hope to do this year include:
- An all-nighter from 7pm to 7am where we do various activities such as broomball, midnight bowling, and indoor soccer.
Previous all-nighters have been a blast and we look forward to planning the events for this year. Our all-nighters are a
great way to have fun, eat lots of food, and bring friends to see what our youth group is all about!
- Go to a movie
- Go to Christian Concerts (Toby Mac, Third Day, Newsboys, Casting Crowns, just to name a few)
- Cosmic bowling
- Go to the Stocker Farm’s Corn Maze
- Providing an Easter Egg Hunt for the Sunday School
- Providing food for Thanksgiving baskets (very successful, thanks!)
- Ice Skating/Broomball
- A youth retreat to either Holden Village or Valley Camp
- Get together to play games and do homework
Who would be considered part of the Youth Group?

Youth Group News and Announcements
The year is young! We need ideas on how we can become better involved in our community.
In the hype of our first and second mission trips our youth have become very focused on
fundraisers to get us to Mexico to help families down there. Although we can still use fundraising
ideas while we are debt from our last trip, we would like to be better involved in our community
because we know people need help here too. Please give us your ideas and input, we would love to hear from you!
Do you have a facebook page? Would you like to be better informed on activities the youth is participating in?
Check out our facebook group LOTC Youth Group or give your email to Sara Lloyd or Danielle Hanson and we will keep you informed.
